My skin is dry. Or is it dehydrated?
There are many myths around a very important skin subject – hydration and the importance of it. Read this article and we will navigate you through!
DRY is considered as a skin type. DEHYDRATED is considered as a skin condition that can attack all skin types.
DRY skin lacks lipids, while DEHYDRATED skin lacks water.Â
Grab a mirror! Let’s find out which one you have.
Dry
Cause: Lack of sebum production in the skin.
Symptoms: Feels dry and rough on the surface, can be flaky and sensitive to weather conditions. May look red after cleansing. Skincare products do not absorb well and may cause stinging sensations. Premature fine wrinkles may appear at early age, mainly around the eyes and mouth. Pores look small and the complexion looks dull.
Solution: Powerful oil based formulas.
Dehydrated
Cause: Lack of water in the skin. A condition affected by wrong skincare routine, environmental conditions and lifestyle.
Symptoms: Looks dull and uneven. Often with pimples and spots, as skin is compensating dehydration by producing more sebum. Moisturizers absorb instantly and foundations can turn patchy and uneven during the day
Solution: Moisturizers and serums, all products with humectants that attract and bind water.
What if it is dry AND dehydrated?
Unfortunately, skin can be both dry and dehydrated at the same time. While they have different causes (dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water), the symptoms can often overlap, making it tricky to distinguish between the two.
Both conditions can cause tightness and appear dull. However, there are subtle differences:
- Dry skin does not absorb skincare products quickly and irritations occur often
- Dehydrated skin “eats” the products you use instantly and your make-up turns patchy during the day
How to get healthy skin?
A golden rule that applies for making both skin conditions better:
Stay away from mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), silicones, glycerin and propylene glycol in your daily routine as these ingredients will make dehydrated skin feel worse and dry skin scream for help.
Instead look for strong humectants that attract moisture:
Hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera, vegan silk polypeptides, flower acids, red algae, Rosa Centifolia extract – all found in D’DIFFERENCE lines.
Healthy skin needs both water and oil and that is why we at D´DIFFERENCE believe in layering – watery layers for hydration (toners and serums), emulsions and creams for balanced hydration and nutrition. Keeping all that in mind our team of chemists has created 5D ENERGY BACK FACE SERUM and 5D POWER BACK FACE OIL They were created to care for dry, dehydrated, mature and problematic skin on a daily basis.
For Dry Skin – 5D Power Back Face Oil
The thing to note about face oils is that their strength lies in nourishing the skin. Skin that is dry and nutrient-poor is very stubborn. It tends to get red, is rough and flaky, and has a scratchy sensation after contact with water.
The stars of the face oil are:
- Cold pressed rosehip oil for restorative properties.
- Retinol to reduce signs of ageing, hyperpigmentation, sun damage and scars.
- Lupine seed extract to increase elasticity and remodel sagging face contour.
- Abyssinian oil and shea oil esters to nourish AND moisturize.
- Lupine and wheat germ oils for antioxidant and DNA protection
When is oil needed?
Definitely when the skin is dry and taut, sensitized and fragile, with visible signs of aging – loss of firmness and sun damage. This oil is a true innovation as besides nourishing, rejuvenating and plumping, it contains also moisturizing properties. USE TIP: to get the most out of your skincare routine, we recommend applying the face oil to your skin BEFORE the cream!
For Dehydrated Skin – 5D Energy Back Face Serum
Serums help to increase the skin’s moisture levels, thereby reducing excess oiliness, sensitivity and even pimples. Everybody needs a serum because there is always too little moisture in the skin!
The heroes of the serum are:
- 4 hyaluronic acids of different molecular sizes are magnets for moisture, making the skin more plump and hydrated.
- 5% Niacinamide – brightens the skin and regulates oil production.
- Plant stem cell extract stimulates cell turnover and collagen production.
- Rosa Centifolia petal extract has soothing properties.
- Copper polypeptides help to repair cells and fight ageing.
When is serum necessary?
Definitely when any cream is absorbed very fast, but the skin still starts to shine quickly. When imperfections haunt you and also when the skin has signs of aging. Serum is also necessary to control sebum production. The serum is water-based consisting only of active ingredients, water and a preservative. It’s a product that quickly solves the problems of dehydrated skin.
SHOP IF YOUR SKIN IS
For both products, it’s important to let it absorb and then add the next product to your skin. In the end, it’s hard to give an exact absorption time, as we are all unique, but 3-5 minutes would be best. If you see the products starting to roll on the skin, extend the time.
